Over 60 genocide victims accorded decent burial

At least 64 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Kamonyi District, were laid to rest in Mugina Sector on April 26, 2021.

The ceremony took place at the Mugina Genocide Memorial during the commemoration of the 27th Tutsi massacre at Mugina Catholic Parish, which was attended by a small number of people for reasons of adherence to anti-covid measures19.

Among the Tutsi who had taken refuge in Mugina Parish in the hope of survival, there were those from Mugina commune, one of the 17 which were part of Gitarama Prefecture in the Amayaga area.

There were also those from other communes around Mugina such as Runda, Musambira and Ntongwe, as well as those from Kigali and Bugesera localities.

Mukamana Beline, who spoke on behalf of the families who buried their relatives, returned to the mock death of the dead Tutsi in Mugina, praised the courage of those who tried to save some and hailed the steps taken by survivors towards rehabilitation.

The Mayor of Kamonyi District, Tuyizere Thaddée, reassured the representatives of the families whose members were buried that the district administration will continue to be closer to them in the process of remembrance and rebuilding.
