The City of Kigali, in collaboration with the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC), continues the Covid-19 test for people living in all cells with a view to assessing the status of the epidemic in the city and assisting those infected with the disease early.
There testing exercise is for those of over 70 years old and those with special conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, AIDS and other chronic conditions.
Once it is found that someone is infected, immediately he/she is quarantined and urged to follow the instructions given by the health authorities and thus cared for before it could get far.
On Sunday 24 January we visited Karugira Cell, Kigarama Sector in Kicukiro District where they started the voluntary COVID 19 testing service.
The service has also been provided in other parts of Kigali city, where the beneficiaries are happy that the service has been brought closer to them and encourage their colleagues to get tested as it helps them know the status of their life and better measures to prevent and protect others.
MUNYANKUMBURWA said, “I left home and came for a COVID 19 test to find out how I was doing. I was always embarrassed and felt that I might have been infected but now I’m safe.”
“COVID-19 testing is important because it helps me to know the status of my health. If one finds him/herself infected he/she immediately start treatments and get advice from health specialists.”
